One of the most encouraging things about Fifa is that the people who design and create the game are also fans of the finished product. They want to see improvements just as much as fans of the game do.
So it is not that surprising then that they continually seek feedback from gamers about what needs to be tweaked, what elements they would like to see added, and how the latest version of the game can be better than the last.
To give you a sneak preview of those new additions, you can look forward to a new shot system, better ariel battles, improved goalkeepers, quick set-plays, skilled dribbling, and a multi-player practice arena.
Some of these featured in Fifa 09, but they are now a lot more refined and easier to use in the game.
Each console has its own unique element, which makes it even more enjoyable for the gamer. For example, on the NDS there will be a ‘half-time coach feedback’ segement that offers you advice on tactics, substitutions to make, and how to get in behind the opposition.
Probably the best thing about the new game though is the introduction of a ‘set-piece creator’. No longer will you be limited to taking free-kicks that can only go a few ways, this new tool allows you to be creative.
Let’s set the scene……you have a free-kick on the right side of the opposition’s box. You want to make the best use of this set-piece and not just cross it hoping that your players can win the header.
Go into the ‘set-piece creator’ and map out exactly what you want to happen. Maybe one of your big centre-backs can make a run towards the front post bringing some opposing players with him, while your other defender drifts off to the back post where he head the ball back into the penalty area.
Or you can instruct your central midfield to make a dummy run into the box, then turn around, go outside the box, pick the ball up in a short pass, and blast a shot at goal.
You can store your preferred set-pieces, so that it is easy to select them once you win a free-kick during a game. And whoever you are playing against will struggle to defend against it as they won’t know what is happening.
This type of addition could only be possible if those making the game knew about football and what was needed to upgrade the game. Thankfully those people are charged with keeping the Fifa machine moving forward.
